Devotional: God’s Fulfillment Center

There is a large warehouse in my town that receives, stores, picks, packs, and ships customer orders of a huge variety of goods. These centers are equipped with advanced technology to process orders quickly and efficiently. It’s an Amazon Fulfillment Center. A storehouse of good things there for you to fulfill the needs in your life.

David, king of Israel, says God has a fulfillment center.

How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world. (Psalm 31:19, NLT)

David was praying for God’s deliverance from his enemies. He felt under siege and needed God’s shelter, God’s protection. In a burst of faith and confidence in Yahweh he extoled the “goodness” of God, goodness that was stored up for people who trust in the Lord. God worked this goodness, or gave or lavished it, on whomever came to Him for His protection. And God did this in the open. He showed His goodness to His faithful ones so everyone could see.

David had experienced this many times:

  • When Goliath challenged the army of Israel and David took the challenge of fighting him, the Lord gave him good aim with his sling, felling the giant and allowing David to defeat him in front of both armies, Israel’s and Philistia’s. (1 Samuel 17)
  • When he was being chased by Saul and hid in a cave, only to have Saul camp right near his hiding place, he snuck into Saul’s camp at night and took his spear and water jug. He called out to Saul in the morning and showed Saul his belongings, proving he could have killed Saul in his sleep but didn’t. Saul blessed him. (1 Samuel 26)
  • When David fled Absalom, his son who wanted David’s throne, God thwarted Absalom’s strategy and gave David victory over his son’s army and hushed the scorn and curses of Shimei. (2 Samuel 16,17)

God has a fulfillment center for you and me. He wants to lavish good on you, victory and protection, peace and love, glory and honor, in the presence of the watching world. Have you placed your order?
