God Is For Me – Psalm 56:8-11
This is another psalm of David, a lament about the enemies he fears will take his life. David had sought freedom from king Saul’s constant looking for him to kill him (can you imagine the pressure) by taking refuge with the Philistines (1 Samuel 21:10-15). Only, they came not to trust him and his life was in danger. Was God paying attention? Oh, He is paying very close attention.
You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me. In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? (Psalm 56:8-11 ESV)
When troubles come against us we sometimes feel alone or as if God is ignoring our plight. The truth is far different. He keeps count of our tossings in bed during the night and our tears are a precious possession to Him that motivate Him to act. All this has been planned from the beginning, written in the book of our lives.
God will hear us and turn back our enemies because He is for us. He is never against us. And so I can and will put my trust in Him and not be afraid. No human being can take away my relationship with God, and that is the most precious possession I have.
