God Shall Arise – Psalm 68:1-3
The lyrics to John Lennon’s song, Imagine:
Imagine there’s no heaven, It’s easy if you try, No hell below us, Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people Livin’ for today
Imagine there’s no countries, It isn’t hard to do, Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion, too
Imagine all the people Livin’ life in peace
You may say I’m a dreamer, But I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us, And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can, No need for greed or hunger, A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people Sharing all the world
You may say I’m a dreamer, But I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us And the world will live as one
Quite a difference philosophically and practically from God’s Word.
God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered; and those who hate him shall flee before him! As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away; as wax melts before fire, so the wicked shall perish before God! But the righteous shall be glad; they shall exult before God; they shall be jubilant with joy! (Psalm 68:1-3 ESV)
If there is no judgment in the world with punishment for evil and reward for righteousness, then this is a most pitiable world. But we celebrate a God who in fact will bring judgment with absolute fairness and it makes the righteous exultant with joy.
