Great Peace Have Those Who Love Your Law – Psalm 119:161-168
Where does peace come from in the midst of persecution and injustice? It comes from knowing that my reward is certain because of my love for God’s law. It comes from knowing that justice will come from God to those who hate me. It comes from knowing that God does not miss a thing about me, and He cares for me.
Sin and Shin
Princes persecute me without cause, but my heart stands in awe of your words. I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoil. I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love your law. Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous rules. Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble. I hope for your salvation, O LORD, and I do your commandments. My soul keeps your testimonies; I love them exceedingly. I keep your precepts and testimonies, for all my ways are before you. (Psalm 119:161-168 ESV)
For the one who lives under the oppression of others there is a greater reality that puts it in perspective. All our ways are before the Living God in whom we stand in awe and in the keeping of whose precepts we find great reward. Despite our circumstances we praise God throughout our day for the peace that comes from knowing Him through His law. We hope for deliverance from pain, and look to Him for that, but we love His testimonies more than anything.
