Sometimes wisdom has to be reasoned to.
The one who conceals hatred has lying lips,
and whoever utters slander is a fool. (Proverbs 10:18, ESV)
You can’t hide your hatred without lying. You can’t give vent to your hatred and thus slander the object of your hatred. This only leaves one option. Get hatred out of your heart!
How do you do that?
Ask God to give you His love for the person you hate (or maybe just dislike?). Ask Him to show you how He looks upon that person. Ask Him to show you this person’s pain.
This doesn’t mean that you will excuse this person’s evil, nor stop seeking to undo the affects of his or her wrongdoing. But you will be doing it with the heart of God, whose Son instructed us to love our enemies (Matthew 5:43-48).
