Then I Shall Have an Answer – Psalm 119:41-48

A taunt is a remark made to anger, wound or provoke someone.  The one who taunts seeks to demean us by exposing some perceived flaw in our lives.  What if that perceived flaw is our belief in God?

Waw

Let your steadfast love come to me, O LORD, your salvation according to your promise; then shall I have an answer for him who taunts me, for I trust in your word.  And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for my hope is in your rules.  I will keep your law continually, forever and ever, and I shall walk in a wide place, for I have sought your precepts.  I will also speak of your testimonies before kings and shall not be put to shame, for I find my delight in your commandments, which I love.  I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes.  (Psalm 119:41-48 ESV)

Do you have a taunter, someone in your life who makes fun of your faith, who challenges that God exists or that, if He does exist, He cares about you?  It is in those situations that we long for God’s steadfast love toward us to manifest itself in delivering us by giving us an answer to the one who taunts.  We need God’s truth in our hearts and on the tip of our tongues to lead us in “wide” places, safe places, and to enable us to speak even to people of might and position without shame.  Love and meditate on His teaching.
