When Brothers Dwell in Unity – Psalm 133
John 13:34 “I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the LORD has commanded the blessing, life forevermore. (Psalm 133 ESV)
How blessed are we if we have unity among the people of God? We are as blessed as the anointing of Aaron for the priesthood, which signals Israel’s being in fellowship with the living God, Aaron overseeing the sacrifices and the entrance to right relationship with Yahweh. We are as blessed as the dew of Hermon falling on dry Jerusalem and watering the crops to bring forth food. When we believers are as one it is good and pleasant and a symbol of the very life of God forever. It is a picture of the coming kingdom. Am I doing my part?
