You Have Made Me Hope – Psalm 119:49-56
Paul McCartney revealed recently that his song, Let It Be, and especially the line, “When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me,” was inspired by a dream he had of his deceased mother coming to him and encouraging him to let it be. The psalmist found encouragement in the night from another source.

Remember your word to your servant, in which you have made me hope. This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life. The insolent utterly deride me, but I do not turn away from your law. When I think of your rules from of old, I take comfort, O LORD. Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked, who forsake your law. Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my sojourning. I remember your name in the night, O LORD, and keep your law. This blessing has fallen to me, that I have kept your precepts. (Psalm 119:49-56 ESV)
With all due respect to Paul McCartney, when I find myself in times of trouble it is not mother Mary who comes to me, it is Yahweh Himself through His word. This is my hope in affliction, that His promises are true, that His rules, when kept, bring life, that the path of righteousness spelled out in His precepts brings blessing. And I will share God’s indignation at those who wickedly forsake His law and bring such suffering into the lives of others.
